Call for non-academic items
The Return of the Ring will celebrate the life and works of J.R.R. Tolkien. It will be both an academic conference and a fan convention. We wish to hold all sorts of events during the Return of the Ring, and we are inviting you to help provide content. There will be several streams of talks and panels, which are not all expected to be highly academic. We also are trying to organise other events, such as creative workshops, performances, etc.
Some ideas include:
- Present a slideshow of your creative responses to Tolkien and Middle-earth in your land
- Run a workshop or demonstration of skills, crafts or recipes - e.g. show us your leatherwork, let us taste your lembas, Ent draughts and more!
- Teach us your songs and dances
- Present your drama
- Share your poetry and fan-fiction
Please don't think 'No one would be interested in that' or 'I can't fill half an hour': We ARE interested and we can group shorter items together. Even if your idea is tentative we want to hear it.
We also plan to have an area where poster displays can be put up and viewed. So you can put up a display about your society, or anything else, provided the display contains nothing valuable. If you wish to display a poster you can also use these forms.
There will also be an art show. If you wish to display your work in the art show, please contact art@returnofthering.org.
To propose an event for the convention, please fill in a form describing the event before 11th November 2011, though if your proposed event requires anything complex, please do so earlier. If the event is a talk or a panel, please fill in the Talks Proposal Form. For other events, please fill in the Other Items Proposal Form. If you have any questions, please contact programme@returnofthering.org.
